What you get

A portable hot-air sauna rather than a steam tent. The Pod Company says it reaches 85°C, far hotter than a steam tent, so it feels closer to a traditional Finnish sauna. The cover is natural cotton, there is red mood lighting inside, and it fits people up to 6 ft 7 in.

It takes about 10 minutes to set up and fits 1 person, sitting upright. Up to 85°C, the hottest here, and no steam, so no damp in the room. On the downside: costs twice as much as a steam tent.

The heat

This is dry heat, like a traditional Finnish sauna. The heater warms the air inside the pod itself, so there is no water to fill and no steam in the room. Dry air can go much hotter than steam and still feel comfortable, which is why these pods are rated well above any steam tent.

Running costs

The Pod Company does not publish the power use for the Sauna Pod. Most portable saunas use between 350 W and 1,500 W, which works out at roughly 5p to 20p for a 30-minute session at today’s prices. Check the label on the heater and use our running-cost calculator.
